Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) – Ministry of Textiles, Government of India
The Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) is the nodal agency under the Ministry of Textiles, responsible for the development, promotion, and export of Indian handicrafts. It supports over 68 lakh artisans, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, through schemes focused on skill development, infrastructure, marketing, and financial assistance.
With six regional offices and 61 field units, it implements flagship programs like the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP) and Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme, aiming to preserve cultural heritage while enhancing livelihoods and global competitiveness.
