URBAN FOREST

Roopaantar's initiative, supported by HDFC Bank under CSR Activity, unfolds as a visionary endeavor to establish urban forests akin to "oxygen chambers" within urban landscapes. The term "oxygen chambers" emphasizes the significance of these green spaces as vital sources of clean air. The 1-acre plot, enriched with 8000 trees, serves as a dynamic ecosystem, absorbing pollutants and generating oxygen.

Our initiative distinguishes itself by planting a diverse array of Critically Endangered (like Karkat, Shalyakarni), Endangered (like Dahiman, Sonpatha, etc), Vulnerable (like Kumbi, Gabdi, etc), Nearly Threatened (like Salai, Anja, etc) and Rare plants (like Paakar and Shami) in our urban forest. More than just creating a green space, our mission is to actively preserve declining species. We believe in cultivating biodiversity to ensure a resilient and sustainable ecosystem. Through this approach, we aim to contribute to the conservation of rare and threatened plant species, fostering a harmonious coexistence between urban development and the preservation of our natural heritage.

The Miyawaki Urban Forest project at SGSITS College, Indore, spearheaded by Roopaantar in collaboration with HDFC Bank, has achieved significant milestones since its initiation on October 24, 2023. This transformative endeavor involved the meticulous planting of 8250 trees, representing over 66 diverse native species, including 25+ threatened species. The plantation drive, executed from February 14 to February 18, 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty of SGSITS College, NCC Cadets, members of social clubs such as Rotary Indore and Jain Engineering Society, as well as students from schools like Bal Vinay Mandir, Kereleeya Samaj, and Angel Heart Academy. Notably, HDFC Bank officials actively engaged in this collaborative effort. This initiative stands as a shining example of the positive impact that community engagement and corporate social responsibility can have on environmental conservation and ecosystem preservation.

This thoughtful approach not only enhances biodiversity but also contributes to the vital roles that bees and other creatures play in ecosystem health, including pollination and pest control. Roopaantar's commitment to creating a sustainable urban future extends beyond human-centric benefits, fostering a harmonious coexistence between nature and the urban environment.
